Welcome to Arizona A.R.E. —
Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research & Enlightenment in Arizona
The Arizona A.R.E. held its annual Fall Retreat on September 26-27, 2018 at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale. Our topic this year was on Holistic Healing. The keynote speaker for this event was Dr. Jean Paul (J.P.) Amonte from Virginia Beach. Approximately 45 community members were in attendance for the two-day event.
Dr. Amonte is the head of Holistic Clinical Services at the A.R.E. in Virginia Beach. He has been an A.R.E member since he was five years old. J.P. began intensively studying the readings after graduating from Wake Forest University in 2002 with a major in psychology and a minor in biochemistry. He then graduated from the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy in 2004 and currently serves as faculty there, teaching several classes. Dr. Amonte maintains a link with the Arizona A.R.E. community in that he was both a student and colleague of Dr. Peter Schoeb.
A skilled and engaging presenter, Dr. Amonte gave two full days of Cayce-based information across various spectrums of holistic health care including, exercise, diet, nutrition, and mind-body-spirit balance. Dr. Amonte graciously allowed us to video tape each of his presentations and they can be viewed on the Arizona A.R.E. You Tube channel.
On Wednesday night attendees were treated to a crystal bowl meditation led by Emily Slonina. Emily brought her full complement of bowls and demonstrated the unique sounds each could make. During the course of the meditation, Emily invoked various tonal frequencies to soothe and relax the participants into a deep meditation.
Thursday afternoon the group was blessed with a true Arizona pioneer in the field of holistic health, Dr. Gladys McGarey. Spry at 98 years of age, Dr. Gladys eloquently spoke for an hour on her background both medically and with the A.R.E. healthcare interests. She provided a superb history lesson on how Arizona played a key role in the holistic health movement over the past 60 years, and provided a vision for healing in the 21st Century. Dr. Gladys is a Member Emeritus of the Arizona A.R.E. Core Group.
All in all, a wonderful two days was had by those in attendance. Dr. Amonte made a meaningful impression on those in attendance and reinforced the old adage that when one door closes, another one opens. Though the community is still saddened by the loss of Dr. Schoeb, we were introduced to a new soul who easily filled the big shoes left behind by is fellow holistic practitioner and Cayce advocate. We certainly look forward to having Dr. J.P. Amonte back with us in the future.
